Music
During their time at A-JIS, we would like to teach each student;
- How to properly use their own singing voice
- How to perform using musical instruments
- How to read and write musical notes
- An understanding of the elements of music
- An understanding of how music is a part of past and present culture
To this aim, we offer the following course offerings as part of a comprehensive education in the musical performing arts. Please click on any topic to bring up a detailed explanation of that division.
All students in grades Kindergarten through 5th study General Music for two class periods per week. Our General Music program is attuned to the MCREL standards of music education. Among various sourcebooks, we use the McGraw-Hill published "Share the Music" textbooks. Students at A-JIS are taught to read and write music, to develop a proper singing voice, to perform on various musical instruments, to improvise and create new musical works, and to appreciate music from many cultures and time periods.
