Health Services
Medical Assistance
The School will provide for the medical assistance of students during school hours, on school-sponsored trips, and during school events on campus.
On Suginami campus, a school clinic staffed with a qualified nurse will be provided to treat students who may be injured or ill during the school day.
Students who are diagnosed with a communicable disease are to be held out of school until such time that a licensed physician recommends the students’ re-entry into School.
General Health and Safety
A child with fever, nausea, sore throat, etc. is to be kept at home until all symptoms have disappeared. The school must be notified at once if a child has contracted a communicable disease such as the mumps, influenza, measles, or chicken pox. Keep your child at home until the contagious period has passed. Your local doctor must be advised and consulted. A child will not be permitted to resume attending school until a medical certificate attesting to full recovery is issued. If a child is suspected of being ill while in school, the parents/guardians will be informed and requested to come pick up their child.

Information requested about students for the records needs to be balanced between what is necessary and helpful for the program to care for student adequately and the parents concern for privacy.
Records for children remain confidential and will only be used for emergency and medical purposes.
Basically, there is a need to know the student’s general health status, any special conditions that might limit the student’s participation in routing activities, and the immunizations the student has received.
Names of contact persons for emergency care for each student must be obtained prior to the student’s attendance and must be current and readily accessible.
Immunizations
It is not mandatory to present a school entry immunization certificate before entering school. A local medical provider will fill out the form and be returned to the school by the parent.
Medications
Only a physician is legally authorized to prescribe medications. Therefore, no medications may be given during schools hours except those which have been prescribed by physician and are to be taken at school. Parents should make every effort to adjust medication schedules so that medication should be administered under direct parent supervision.
If medication must be taken at school, the following procedures will take place:
Middle School: students from grades 6th through 9th will self medicate. If the parents deems it necessary that the student needs assistance, the school nurse will supervise medication administration.
Upper Elementary: students from grades 4th and 5th will bring the medication to the infirmary with a note from the parent or guardian telling what time the medication should be taken and prescribed amount of each dose. The School Nurse will supervise medication administration.
Lower Elementary: students from grades Kindergarten to 3rd will bring the medication to the infirmary with a note from the parent or guardian telling what time the medication should be taken and prescribed amount of each dose. The School Nurse will administer the medication.

Temperature readings will be normal for at least 24 hours before returning to school.

If a student contracts a communicable disease, the teacher or parent will notify the School Nurse. To prevent outbreak of the communicable disease, the student will not attend school until the student is completely healed. Also, the student must bring a doctor’s certificate stating that the communicable disease has run its course, and the student is not contagious. The School Nurse will compose a letter with approval of Principal and EEO to the parents deemed necessary to know. The following disease are listed as communicable
