Neighborhood Safety Alerts
In cooperation with local police and government, the school makes every effort to communicate to parents and students all vital information regarding potential safety issues and concerns in the surrounding community. Parents are asked to check this page on a regular basis and provide their children with regular safety guidance. Parents are also responsible for supervision and monitoring of their child's safety traveling between home and the school or school bus. Parents are also reminded that while Japan is considered to be safer than many countries, crime does occur and children face similar threats to their safety as they would in any country if the same basic precautions are not taken, including:
- Carrying a personal alarm in easy reach at all times in public
- Always traveling in a group to and from school
- Walking on well lit and busy routes
- Knowing how to react if threatened or approached by a stranger
- Never entering a car or any other private or secluded area with a stranger or suspicious person
- Always ensuring parents know where students are and where they are headed
Parents are able to subsribe directly to the Suginami Ward Office, Crime Prevention Office email alert service at the following link:
Subscription Page (in Japanese)
These alerts are provided in Japanese only. For the benefit of non-Japanese speaking parents and students the school provides translations of all notices received in English in the sections below and as eNotices to which parents can subscribe and receive automatic email notifications containing safety alerts.

The Suginami Crime Prevention Office has issued a warning to all bicycle owners in the area, following a sharp increase in the frequency of bicycle theft. Thefts often occur when bicycles are left unattended and unlocked for just a few minutes in front of shops and homes. All owners are advised to use two secure locks and not rely on standard rear wheel locks alone, even when leaving a bicycle unattended for just a few minutes. While no problems have yet been reported on or immediately around the campus, all parents, employees and visitors using bicycles are asked to observe these precautions.
