Student Council
The A-JIS Student Council can be thought of as the student voice. It is a body of student leaders comprised of four elected Student Council Officers as well as many class representatives from grades 6-9, MI, and UI classes. The Student Council is a forum through which students can talk about, vote on, and even influence school policies that affect them. The student council is in control of its own schedule and budget. The Officers have the special responsibility, and work load, of representing the views of the entire A-JIS student body to the A-JIS students, teachers, administration, and the “outside world”. They will work closely with concerned teachers and administrators. They will also represent A-JIS to individuals and organizations outside A-JIS in the larger Suginami and Tokyo community.
Student Council Objectives
- To make strong leaders by providing an opportunity for students to practice and develop responsibility and leadership within the school environment.
- To improve communication by providing a place for students to exchange views in a participatory, cooperative atmosphere.
- To create a spirit of teamwork and unity by providing students with common tasks to plan, organize, and execute.
- To make ourselves better by making the world better. Student Council provides opportunities for students to affect positive change in the larger community outside of A-JIS through community service, environmental, and volunteer efforts.
- To enhance the overall student life at A-JIS.
Student council executes the following major events in the school year.
- Halloween fund raiser
- Christmas, Valentines Day, and End of Year Dance Parties
- Student Survey – School Improvement
- Student Proposals – School Improvement
- Charity Walks
- Support and participate in numerous sporting, music, and academic events inside and outside A-JIS.
Student Fundraising
In recognition of the value of the experience that comes to students who raise funds for worthwhile projects, A-JIS allows fundraising by student council, organizations and clubs. Such fundraising will be approved at the discretion of the respective principal.
