Graduate Placement
In recognizing Aoba-Japan International School's Mission Statement and its Objectives as an educational institution and a viable enterprise, the Placement Office has a goal of assisting graduates and their parents in the selection of appropriate secondary schools. Placement Team Members meet ninth graders and their parents with the goal of facilitating the placement process, particularly as it pertains to the orientation toward the various steps leading to the selection of the high school that will best meet the needs of the students. Counselling begins with eighth graders for their preparation for ninth grade, and also assemblies with the eighth grade parents are held to give them advanced information on the placement process and procedures followed at A-JIS.
The following takes place during the year to assist both the students and parents in finding the best school:
- holding Round Table meetings in September with the teachers of graduating students to have enough information about each student
- meeting parents of graduating students to discuss placement concerns
- involving with student recruitment events to gather up-to-date information on schools
- attending the TABS Fair held by the Association of Boarding Schools in late October
- meeting with admission officers of high schools in Japan and abroad
- meeting with parents and the graduating students individually to assist them in finding and deciding on appropriate schools
- giving parents and graduating students assistance in filling out application forms throughout the year
- preparing necessary documents for application such as confidential teacher recommendations and official transcripts
- administering practice interviews for school admission and visa application to graduating students
- giving information and advice to parents and graduating students on general procedure after accepted by a school (I-20, visas, immunisations, etc.)
- meeting parents of eighth grade students in April to give them advanced information on placement after graduation
This process gives both the students and their the best possible method of finding a school that will continue the quality education that they would like for their future.
